G&L Goes Green

 

 

Sustainability has remained a key focus for us throughout 2026. From inspiring a greater appreciation for wildlife during our dedicated Green Week to promoting greener commuting habits, we’ve been exploring ways to make a positive environmental impact. Read on to discover some of the initiatives we’ve been proud to support so far this year.

At G&L Consultancy, environmental responsibility forms an important part of our day-to-day operations. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through responsible recycling, careful water management, and the use of renewable energy generated by the solar panels installed at our offices. We also provide electric vehicle charging facilities for visitors attending our training courses, helping to support more sustainable travel choices.

Many of you will already have seen Julie, our Director’s Forest, planted at her home in partnership with the Woodland Trust. The project is just one example of how environmental awareness is encouraged throughout our organisation, both at work and at home.

Over the past three months, we have been running a number of initiatives designed to help colleagues engage with nature and support local wildlife. Staff were encouraged to install bird boxes and bug hotels in their gardens, and allow patches of grass to grow taller than usual, creating additional habitats for a variety of species. The response was extremely positive, with many colleagues sharing sightings of new visitors to their outdoor spaces.

To further promote an appreciation of local biodiversity, employees were invited to photograph wildlife in their gardens and share their findings with the wider team. The resulting entries highlighted the rich variety of wildlife that can be found in even the smallest green spaces.

These activities culminated in our first G&L Green Week. Throughout the week, colleagues were encouraged to walk, cycle, car share or use alternative methods of transport wherever possible. As a result, our car park was noticeably quieter than usual and served as a reminder of the collective impact that small changes can have.

 

The Somerset and Northern Ireland offices got creative with their baking and produced some amazing green-themed treats.

 

The week began with a Wear Green Day to mark the start of the initiative. This was followed by a Green Bake Off, where staff competed in categories including Best Themed Bake and Best Tasting Bake. The standard of entries was exceptionally high and provided an enjoyable opportunity for colleagues to come together while supporting the week’s theme.

The final event of Green Week was the judging of our wildlife photography competition, showcasing some fantastic images captured by employees and their families. Alongside the activities taking place within G&L, we were delighted to support the Wildlife Trust’s Rotherby Estate Appeal through a charitable donation. The appeal focuses on protecting and restoring habitats for wildlife, aligning closely with our own environmental values and commitments.

We were very impressed at how much wildlife our lovely staff were able to capture on camera in their gardens.

 

One unexpected highlight during the period was the arrival of a family of blue tits in Julie’s garden bird box. After installing a camera inside the nest box, staff and followers on our social media platforms were able to follow the entire process, from nest building and egg laying through to fledging. Eight healthy chicks successfully hatched and left the nest, providing a fascinating insight into the natural world and the importance of creating spaces where wildlife can thrive.

 

 

The aim of these initiatives was to strengthen our team’s connection with nature while encouraging simple, practical actions that can support the environment. The enthusiasm and engagement shown by colleagues throughout the programme has been extremely encouraging, and we look forward to building on this success through future environmental initiatives.
